Back in August, we had an issue with our Hot Water Tank. Luckily, we have Home Cover provided as part of our house insurance. Unluckily, our Home Cover provider used this company. On their first visit, the “plumber” (term used very loosely) admitted that he normally only works on Central Heating Systems and not on Unvented Cylinders. He had a look, stated it was a pressure issue; said he’d resolved then left. The following day, the issue happened again. We called the Home Cover Provider and a different Plumber was sent out – same story given that he doesn’t normally work on our type of equipment. However, this one seemed more clueless than the first. So, my wife gave him the instructions for the Hot Water Tank. He asked my wife to turn on the hot water tap in the kitchen, which she did, and he went into the loft and turned off the water that refills the hot water tank. Several minutes later, he bolted out of our loft, face white as sheet claiming our tank was “Flexing”. He then said it needed a new part and that it was safe to use, then left. On the third visit, it was the Plumber who came out the first day who was back again. He stated that he was out to replace a part but didn’t believe that this would solve the issue. Based on the issue a couple of days before, I gave him the instruction manual for the hot water tank. He turned off the water feed to the tank and asked me to turn on the hot water tap in the bath as he needed the tank to be drained – which I did. Then the tank started making knocking/cracking and all sorts of other horrendous noises. It was only then did he decide to read the instructs and exclaimed out loud when he realised, he hadn’t followed the process correctly. He then called the manufacturer of the hot water tank and went outside on his mobile phone. He came back in and declared that our tank had “imploded” and there was nothing more he could. He finished draining and advised that I should call my home insurance. Tank wasn’t covered under the home insurance and the Home Care provider weren’t interested either. So, as the tank has a 25-year warranty, I called the manufacturer only to get the same adviser the plumber had spoken with. He advised me that the tank wouldn’t be covered under warranty as the Plumber had damaged it by not following the correct procedure – which is the same thing he told the plumber. The company are claiming that their employees drained it correctly, even though they didn’t. I would avoid this company at all costs.
