Got a service and MOT today. Staff were pleasant and professional. I was kept up to date with progress and the required work was explained to me. All charges were run by me first. Very happy with the work and the service I received. Would be happy to use them again.

Booked in for a free brake check - it took 27 hours before they did it. They seam to have forgotten about it the first day. The quote for parts was massively more than anywhere else I checked (something like £730 for a rear brake calliper just for the part, not sure if that included vat) so I cancelled my booking. So thanks for the brake check anyway and assurance that it was safe to drive meantime.

Not impressed with the service I received at Halfords Ure Street today which is unfortunate as previously I have had good experiences. I needed a new battery fitted and the manager told me the best they could do was £159. I had a look at the website and they were quoting me for a start stop battery which isn’t required for my car (my car doesn’t have the start stop feature). I explained this on the phone and he just brushed it off and said it was the best he could do and told me to go to another garage. I called again a while later to find the exact model of my battery so I can order the one I want on the Halfords website and go to a store to get it fitted. A woman answered the phone and she said if I had it fitted at the garage they wouldn’t charge for labour; only for the part. So I explained to her that I didn’t need a start stop battery and she spoke to the manager who then agreed he could install a different battery which was £122. There was still a cheaper battery on the website which was £103 that I was wanting so I mentioned this and they eventually agreed to fit it. I feel like the manager has tried to pull the wool over my eyes and con me for more money. To top it all off I was told the issue with my car would be fixed by replacing the battery and it hasn’t been at all. The garage didn’t bother to check before letting me pay and giving the car back to me, literally all they needed to do was turn the key in the ignition to see there was still an issue. Safe to say I won’t be returning.

To begin the ordeal, my partner handed our vehicle in at 8:30am, the time It was booked it in for, and was told there were a few cars to be done before ours, fine, no problem. At 9.30 he then received a phone call to be told “we can’t do your tracking as we can’t do 4 wheel alignment” okay, but the vehicle has a solid beam back axel and only needs front wheel alignment? After a few minutes he was then told “okay fine, they’ll do it for you” like they’re doing us a favour? No, I’d already paid for this! THEN at 10:56am, My partner received another phone call to say our vehicle was ready to be picked up, great, fabulous, they figured it out! NO!? We turn up to pick up the vehicle and find my vehicle, out on the street, presumably for an hour by this point, parked on Double Yellow Lines!? Since when do garages park customers vehicles illegally and risk their customers getting a parking fine for the garages negligence of the Highway Code? Well, if that wasn’t enough, My partner walks into the reception, just to be told, after more than 3 hours between dropping off our vehicle and getting the phone call to say it was ready, that they hadn’t actually done the job It was booked it in for!! He was greeted by a “mechanic” who then proceeded to tell him that he couldn’t do the front wheel alignment because my truck had “a broken exhaust” unsure what that has to do with wheel alignment🥴 And it has “a broken front spring so they wouldn’t be able to get the alignment straight” well, that’s awful funny, as the vehicle doesn’t have front springs, it has a torsion bar!!! We were faced with with nothing but either VERY inexperienced or utterly incompetent “mechanics” who tried to explain every way possible why they couldn’t do their job, when every reason they gave was completely inaccurate. Luckily for us, my partner is a mechanic and he seems to know a lot more about our vehicle than the team of mechanics at Halfords who looked at it today. However, if I wasn’t someone who knew much about vehicles, I would have taken your mechanics for their word that my vehicle needed 4 wheel alignment and that I have a broken spring on the front of it and I would need to get that repaired straight away! When in actual fact, the vehicle can’t have either of those things done!! Take your car to a proper garage and give this one a swift swerve!
