Muir1 StarIn September 2021 my starter motor seized and I needed a garage that could tow to their premises, so I used City of Ely motors rather than my usual dealer garage. They charged me £273 for replacement starter motor and took 10 days to do the job. I returned with the car a couple of days later because I noted a grinding noise when I turned the key. They told me it was "bedding in" and would disappear eventually. I have perhaps driven the car 2 days a week in the last 6 months as I now work from home normally post pandemic. This grinding noise never disappeared. Today I had my car serviced with my usual dealer garage, and asked them to check the starter motor. They said it was on it's way out, and when I said it was replaced in the last 6 months, they said "b******s". I can't prove this, and I don't have the receipt but I strongly suspect these crooks released the seized starter motor and charged me for a new one. So my advice to you is - ASK TO SEE ANY PARTS THEY REMOVED. ASK TO SEE THE NEW PARTS IN SITU.Friday 1st April 2022
